I believe now the word processor in Works is Word. I rue the day I bought MS Works, but the database is exceptional for the home use and OO office and access come nowhere close to the simplicity.

I've used MS Works database for several small libraries and the report function and field entry is exceptionally easy. I said that I did not like Access and felt I should still be able to at least purchase a legal, although unsupported copy of MS Works 9 as a download from Microsoft if I had their product installed on my XP computer.

I did not really care if it was "supported", I just want a legal download of MS Works 9 so I don't have to buy a program I don't want and spend days trying to figure it out.

I don't understand how this is any different than buying software periodically, but maybe it's a sign of things to come that we cannot function without being plugged in. There are several websites offerings downloads of MS Works 9 but unfortunately some are not legitimate. It is my opinion that piracy starts when legitimate companies don't support their customers base and people get desparate to function with the software they have.

I think that my solution is going to be to keep my XP going offline with my MS works database untl some one at Microsoft realizes they have customers out there.

The latest Works does not support the oldest Works formats, and I fortunately still had an intermediary Works version that did. But I have found no replacement for the Works database format which has the most important features I need without being overly complicated like Access or open source equivalents that you need a PhD to understand.

The nuisance with Microsoft is they create proprietory file formats that aren't even supported from one MS product to the next, and then from one day to the other dump their users without providing a suitable migration path. Same problem with Photodraw's. Microsoft is increasingly a waste of space. After upgrading to a new computer with Windows 7, I need MS Works 9 installed to be able to use hundreds of older Works files, notably the wdb files that cannot be converted to Excel or Word.
